Boscastle is a small village on the north Cornish coast, its harbour tucked into a narrow inlet carved by the River Valency and the River Jordan where they meet the sea at the base of steep valley walls. The harbour is one of the few natural harbours on this stretch of the north Cornwall coast, the inlet protected from the Atlantic swell by a dog-leg entrance that requires careful navigation but provides shelter for small vessels once inside. Penally Point — the headland on the eastern side of the harbour entrance — gives a clear view back across the inlet towards the village and the valley behind, and it is from this vantage point that this photograph was taken. The image captures Boscastle Harbour beneath a soft pink sky during a calm sunrise, the still water of the inlet reflecting the colour of the sky above and the harbour walls and the hillside beyond lit in the gentle light of early morning.
