Haytor Rocks sit at around 457 metres on the eastern edge of Dartmoor National Park in Devon, and are among the most visited and most photographed granite outcrops on the moor. The two main tors rise sharply from the surrounding moorland, their weathered surfaces shaped by thousands of years of freeze-thaw erosion, and on clear evenings the elevated position gives an unobstructed view across the South Devon countryside toward the coast. Haytor was once a significant industrial site — the Templer Way granite railway, one of the earliest horse-drawn railways in Britain, ran from the quarries near the rocks down to the Stover Canal and on to Teignmouth, carrying Dartmoor granite that was used in the construction of London Bridge and the British Museum.
