The Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore — known universally as the Duomo — is the defining landmark of Florence and one of the most recognisable buildings in Italy. Completed in the 15th century after nearly 150 years of construction, its terracotta-tiled dome designed by Filippo Brunelleschi remains the largest masonry dome ever built and dominates the Florentine skyline from almost every vantage point in the city. This cityscape photography print was captured in the period just before sunset, when the golden light of the late afternoon settles across the terracotta rooftops of the city and the warm tones of the cathedral's marble façade are amplified by the angle and quality of the light.
