Pen y Pass, Snowdonia, North Wales — mountain road photography through the national park
Pen y Pass sits at the head of the Llanberis Pass in Snowdonia National Park, at an elevation of around 360 metres, where the A4086 road crests the ridge between the Llanberis and Nant Gwynant valleys. It is one of the most recognisable viewpoints in North Wales — a place where the road itself becomes part of the landscape, curving through a terrain of exposed rock, moorland and mountain that changes dramatically with the weather and the season. The pass is the main starting point for the Pyg Track and the Miners’ Track, two of the most popular routes to the summit of Snowdon, and on clear days the views from the road extend across the surrounding peaks and down into the valleys below.
