Froward Point is the southernmost tip of the Kingswear peninsula on the South Devon coast, the headland marking the eastern side of the entrance to the Dart estuary where the river meets the English Channel. The point is accessible on foot via the South West Coast Path from Kingswear, the path descending through woodland and coastal scrub before reaching the open headland with its views south and west across the sea. Offshore, the Mewstone — a distinctive rocky outcrop that sits a short distance from the headland — provides a focal point in the composition, the rock rising from the water against the open horizon of the English Channel.
