Bantham Beach sits at the mouth of the River Avon in the South Hams district of Devon, where the estuary meets the open sea between Bigbury-on-Sea and Thurlestone. It is one of the finest beaches on the South Devon coast — a wide arc of sand backed by dunes, with Burgh Island visible across the water to the north-west. The island, connected to the mainland by a tidal causeway, is one of the most distinctive landmarks on this stretch of coast, its art deco hotel and rocky outline making it immediately recognisable from the beach. This photography print was made at sunset, with the camera positioned low among the rocks at the water’s edge. A long exposure was used to smooth the movement of the water, creating a soft, layered quality in the foreground that contrasts with the solidity of the island and the colour of the sky. The result is an image that works well as wall art across a range of sizes, from smaller prints to larger statement pieces where the tonal depth of the scene becomes fully apparent.
