Porth Nanven is a small, sheltered cove on the far western tip of the Penwith Peninsula in southern Cornwall, tucked between two rocky headlands a short walk from the village of St Just. The beach is known locally and among geologists as the Dinosaur Egg Beach, a name that comes from the extraordinary collection of large, smooth, rounded boulders that cover the shore — ancient granite and greenstone rocks worn into near-perfect ovoid forms by centuries of wave action and tidal movement. The cove is small and relatively difficult to reach, which keeps it quieter than the more accessible beaches of the Penwith coast, and the combination of the distinctive boulders, the rocky headlands and the small island visible between them gives the location a character that is unlike anywhere else on the Cornish coast.
