The Daymark stands on the headland above Kingswear on the South Devon coast, a tall stone navigational tower built in 1864 to guide ships into the mouth of the Dart estuary below. It sits on a high point of the coastal path with views across to Dartmouth on the opposite bank, the tower visible for miles out to sea and a familiar landmark to anyone who has sailed or walked this stretch of the south Devon coast. This astrophotography print was taken at 1am, the camera set up in the dark on the coastal path with the Milky Way crossing the sky above the tower. A torch was shone up through the interior of the Daymark during the long exposure, the light catching the structure from within and giving the image a distinctive quality that separates it from a standard night sky photograph.
